Hi, I`m Robert Daley Ferguson & welcome to my web site!
On this home page let
me to try to explain what I`m attempting to do.
The idea is to bring to this site a weekly letter on Brisbane's current development without forgetting about the earlier
days of settlement in this then very remote and unappealing area of Moreton Bay and the Brisbane River.
All this was well less than 200 years ago arising from a need for a place to ship the really `bad guys' from southern
penal settlements, prisoners who had offended a second time.
In other words, committing a crime in Australia after having been deported from England in the first place.
The severity of the crime was of course of little importance, the mere fact of offending a second time in the land of
deportation ( to become known as Australia) was offence enough to earn the tag of `bad guy'.
The scene today in the South East corner of Queensland particularly in the 200 kilometre city stretching from Noosa in
the north down to Coolangatta in the south, is extremely remote from what anyone could have envisaged back in the 1820`s.
